CATARACT diagnosis & SURGERY
We offer cataract screening and cataract surgery. Cataract surgeries are performed at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre located at Hotel Dieu Hospital.
As an extension of Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), Focus Eye Centre is being used as an additional surgical suite for all of our Queen’s Department of Ophthalmology faculty (both at KHSC and other external clinics). This allows patients additional access to care, and the ability to have their cataract surgery done more quickly, as surgical space is limited at Hotel Dieu Hospital. These surgeries are OHIP funded (not private) and any fees that may be in addition to your surgery for testing or premium lenses are exactly the same as they would be at KHSC. Please note that not all cataract surgeries are eligible to be performed at Focus Eye Centre and the appropriate location for your surgery will be selected by your surgeon.
Cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed in North America; it is also one of the safest. Even so, we understand that you may be concerned about undergoing surgery. We are committed to providing you with the information you need to feel comfortable with your decision to have cataract surgery.
